Welcome to the adventure
We're delighted your family is joining the 144th. This short guide covers everything you need for a great start.
Who we are
Four sections, one group
We meet on Mondays at the Scout Hall, Baillieston.
Beavers
6–8 years · Mondays 18:00–19:00
Cubs
8–10½ years · Mondays 19:00–20:15
Scouts
10½–14 years · Mondays 19:30–21:00
Explorers
14–18 years · Mondays 20:15–21:30
Your first few weeks
Just come along
- No uniform needed while your young person settles in — comfy clothes and soft shoes are perfect.
- Arrive a few minutes early on the first night so the section leader can say hello and take a few details.
- Questions? Grab any leader before or after the session — there's no such thing as a silly question.

Uniform & badges
Once they've settled in, each section has its own uniform top, worn with our group necker.
- Our Uniform Guide shows what each section wears, where badges go, and where to buy (new or second-hand).
- The group necker is ordered through the website.
Money matters
Subs & what they cover
Monthly subscriptions cover weekly activities, badges and our running costs. Current rates and payment details are always on the Group Costs page.
- Cost should never be a barrier to Scouting — speak to us in confidence if it ever becomes one.
One app for everything
Online Scout Manager (OSM)
You'll receive an email invitation to OSM, the system we use to run the group. Through its Parent Portal you can:
- See the programme and upcoming events, and sync them to your calendar
- Sign up and pay for events and camps, and manage subs
- Keep your contact details, consents and medical info up to date
- Follow your young person's badge progress
Stay in the loop
News, calendar & WhatsApp
- Our WhatsApp communities carry reminders and routine logistics — the website explains how to join.
- The group calendar and news pages keep longer-term plans in one place.

Camps & adventures
Camps, sleepovers and days out are the highlight of the year for most young people.
- Kit lists tell you exactly what to pack (and what not to buy specially).

We're volunteer-powered
Parents make Scouting happen
Every leader here is a volunteer. You don't need any experience to help — an extra pair of hands on a parent rota makes a real difference.
- Help occasionally, regularly, or take on a role — every bit counts.
- Curious? Have a chat with any leader, no commitment.
