About Us
The 144th 1st Baillieston Glasgow Scout Group has proudly been a part of our community since 1912. We're a place where young people in Baillieston and the surrounding area can find friendship, adventure, and somewhere to truly belong.
We're based at St Andrew's Church hall in the heart of Baillieston, and we run Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers. We don't currently offer a Squirrels section, but all our other sections meet on Monday evenings.
In a world where many young people feel lonely, anxious, and stuck behind screens, Scouts offers something different — a community of kindness where fun and friendship run through everything. It's a third place: not school, not home, but somewhere young people can be themselves, be heard, and find their feet alongside trusted adults who believe in them.
Whether your young person is itching for adventure or you're an adult ready to inspire the next generation, we'd love to welcome you.

Community
Part of our community
Scouts plays a visible and positive role in communities across the UK, and we're proud of the part the 144th plays in Baillieston. Through local action, fundraising and partnerships — including with St Andrew's Church — we help make our corner of Glasgow a stronger, kinder place to live.
Activities
What Do Scouts Do?
Weekly Meetings
Scout groups host weekly meetings during term time. Young people get together with other members of their group and take part in almost any activity — all aimed at completing badges, learning useful skills, working as a team, or just having fun.
Young people could find themselves having a simple game of football one week and completing a pioneering project with wooden staffs and rope the next. The only limitation is our imagination — and of course health and safety.
Events
Whenever possible, Scouts will get away for events. This could be a challenging day out such as bagging a Munro or helping out with a fundraising event. Many events are planned by our young people, allowing them to challenge themselves and each other — which is what Scouting is all about.
Nights Away
One of the most exciting things for Scouts to get involved in is a night away. This could be an activity camp at one of the UK's many outdoor adventure centres, a two-night canoeing expedition carrying all your gear, or anything in between.
Nights away challenge young people to get out on their own and with friends — learning self-reliance by preparing all their meals, or gaining the sense of achievement that comes from completing a two-night hike in shelters they built themselves.
The only downside is the washing needs done on a Sunday night. Although listening to all the stories of the unique memories that were created makes it all worth it. Well… usually.

Can Anyone Join?
Absolutely anyone from any background is welcome at the 144th. We're proud to welcome young people regardless of gender, race, background or religion. Diversity and inclusivity aren't just nice ideas — they're what make our group, and Scouts as a whole, stronger.
