Support Volunteer

Not everyone can commit to a section every week — and that’s absolutely fine. The Support Group is our team of ready-to-go adults: parents, carers and friends of the Group who are PVG-checked, have done the basic training, and are happy to be called on whenever we need an extra pair of hands.

Think of it as being on standby for Scouting. When a leader’s away, when a camp needs more adults, when a section’s short for a night, or when there’s a one-off job that needs doing — we call the Support Group.

What you’d be doing

• Stepping in to cover when leaders are off or a section is short-handed
• Lending a hand at camps, trips, days out and one-off events
• Helping with a specific task or activity where an extra adult makes all the difference
• Being part of a friendly pool of adults we can call on, on a rota or on-call basis

Who it’s for

This is for adults with limited time but plenty of willingness. You don’t need any Scouting experience, and you’re not tied to a weekly slot — you tell us roughly how much you can give and how you’d like to be contacted, and we fit around you.

It’s also the perfect way to dip a toe in. Plenty of our leaders started exactly here: helping out now and then, getting a feel for it, and stepping into a bigger role when the time was right. There’s no pressure to — but the door’s always open, and the more you put in, the more you get out of Scouting.

We’re based in Baillieston, in Glasgow’s East End, with our home at St Andrew’s Church hall on Bredisholm Road — though as Support you’ll turn up wherever you’re needed, camps and day trips included. (It’s a church hall, but Scouts is open to everyone — all faiths and none. We’re an inclusive group, not a religious one.)

We’ll sort your PVG/Disclosure check and basic training, and you’ll always have someone to call. This one’s always open — there’s no limit on how many good people we’ll welcome into the Support Group.
