Some new faces at the 144th
As we start a new session, there are a few changes to our team — two leaders stepping back with our thanks, new faces taking on Scouts and Explorers, and one familiar face coming back in a very different role.
Every new session brings a bit of change, and this one more than most. Before we start back on Monday 24 August, we wanted to introduce the people who’ll be running your child’s section this year.
Thank you to Kim and Sam
Kim and Sam have both stepped back from their roles.
It’s easy to underestimate what that kind of commitment actually involves — the Monday nights, of course, but also the planning, the camps, the paperwork, and the hundred small things nobody sees. Between them they’ve given the group and our young people a great deal over the years, and we’re grateful for all of it. We hope they get their Monday evenings back and enjoy them.
Scouts — Zach and Keira
Zach and Keira are now running our Scout section together. Both are familiar faces around the group, and they’ll be leading Scouts from the first night back.
Explorers — Fraser and Stuart
Fraser joins us as our new Explorer leader, arriving at exactly the right moment: we’re relaunching Explorers as a section in its own right this year, with more outdoor time, more adventure and real leadership opportunities for 14 to 18 year olds.
Stuart moves across from Beavers to join the Explorers team alongside him. They’ll both be there on the first night to introduce themselves and set out what they’ve got planned.
Cubs — and a story worth telling
Nikita joins our Cubs team, and will be supporting Explorers alongside that.
This one makes us particularly proud. Nikita came all the way up through the 144th as a young person — through the sections, through the badges, through the camps — and is now back as one of our leaders. That’s the whole point of Scouting, really: young people who grow up in it and then turn round and give it to the next lot.
A new Group Lead Volunteer
Paul has taken on the role of Group Lead Volunteer for the group.
“I’m here to help. Whether it’s a question about your child’s section, something that isn’t working, or an idea you think we should hear, please do come and find me on a Monday night or drop me a line.”
Could you join them?
Every one of the people above started by saying yes to something. If you’ve ever wondered whether there’s a place for you at the 144th, there almost certainly is — from a weekly section role to something behind the scenes with no weekly commitment at all, some of it fully remote.
You don’t need any Scouting experience, and we’ll train you.
Putting names to faces
We’re building out our Meet the Team page over the coming weeks so you can put a face to everyone running your child’s section. In the meantime, our leaders are always on the door on a Monday night — please do say hello.
